SUMMARY:Remembering the old Baker High School Fire of 1967
DESCRIPTION:The fire that destroyed Baker High School on February 18\, 1967 is more than a historical event — it’s a shared memory for our community. In our program for students\, we explored the history of the Longfellow School\, what happened that day\, why it mattered\, and how the community responded. The response from the students was thoughtful and curious\, and the photos sparked conversations across town among those who remember the fire firsthand. \nNow we invite the community to revisit that day together. \nThis one-hour program will begin with a historical presentation exploring the events of the fire and its impact on Baker. Carl Hepperle\, Chief Tom Bruha\, and Robert Singer will add context and perspective\, and attendees are welcome to share their own memories as part of the program. \nIf you have photographs\, artifacts\, or personal recollections connected to the fire\, we encourage you to bring them. These shared pieces help preserve our collective history for future generations. \n📅 Sunday\, February 22\n🕑 2:00 PM\n📍 O’Fallon Historical Museum — 718 S. Main St. \nJoin us as we remember\, reflect\, and record the stories that shaped our community.
